August 29th, Early Release Day, 12:20 pm and Field Trip

Our early release lunch is: 10:12-10:42 Our early release specials time is: 11:40 – 12:10 The field trip price is $18 dollars. If you want them to buy lunch at school it needs to be separate money on the school lunch account which can be done online or send in the money separately and we can turn it in to the lunch room (If they normally buy lunch from school then you already are good to go). Money for different things always has to be separate through the school. If I found an error in any of these things I'm sending the money back with a sticky note, just revise and send in again. Money and permission slip is due back September 7th. Send back ASAP!  Also, our room moms will be attending the field trip so we do not need any additional volunteers. There are many other volunteer opportunities through out the year for PTA and Foundation. Thanks,  Jessica Rodgers Addison Elementary Kindergarten Teacher https://rodgersaddison.blogspot.com/

Career Dress Up Day Friday August 31st

Image
Friday, August 31st, is Career Dress Up Day. Your child should come to school dressed as what they hope to be when they grow up. This event is to help us teach our standard about Labor Day and why we celebrate it so please help them think of interesting careers and interesting ways to represent them in costume. To give you a preview of the week ahead:  We will begin to read and disucss Helpers in My Community by Bobbie Kalman.  We will find out what a community is.  We will also talk about careers and what we might want to be when we grow up. There are so many people in our community that are unrecognized for their great work. This week we will be learning about all these community helpers such as firefighters, police officers, builders, electricians, plumbers, teachers, librarians, principals, doctors, nurses, dentists, paramedics as well as volunteers in our community.  Vocabulary in the book: community: A place where many people live and work together volunteer: A kin

August 20th-24th

Dates to Remember  Wednesday, August 29th-  Early release day 12:15pm Thursday, August 30th-   Chick Fil A Night 3rd, 4th, 5th grades Grandparent's Breakfast Friday, August 31st- Kindergarten Career Dress-Up Day K,1st ,2nd grades Grandparent Breakfast Spirit Day - Wear Addison t-shirt or something  green Monday, September 3rd-  Labor Day - NO SCHOOL Reading: We focused on the book Alligators and Crocodiles by Laura Marsh. We had to learn real facts about our Addison Mascot! We learned words like: hatchling, prey, reptile, snout and senses.  Math: We continued our lessons on counting and worked hard on teen numbers. We spent some time on listening for the difference in teen numbers like 13, versus "ty/dy" numbers like 30. As you listen to your children count, try to help them make the "th" sound for numbers like 13 or 30 instead of the "f" sound. This may help them learn to count higher since they won't confuse the 30s and 40

Update and a few reminders

Please keep one of our kindergarten teachers, Mrs. Barnwell, and her family in your thoughts. She lost her father over the weekend after a somewhat quick illness and has taken this week to say goodbye. We hope all our Addison families will send kind thoughts her way. Just a few reminders and notes: News Flash:  The sniffles, coughs, and runny noses have hit our classroom. We are encouraging getting tissues, using hand sanitizer/ hand washing and keeping our fingers out of our mouths and noses. Please encourage this at home as well.  Homework: Please put a check in the box for each assignment completed, especially the reading, because we have no other way of knowing if it was completed. Also, try to fit more than on day per page to save paper!  Please be sure to empty the front pocket of your child’s Take Home Folder and sign/initial your child’s agenda daily.  Any important notes or messages to you will be found in one of those two places. You may have noticed little mini-book

A great big thank you  to all of our parents for making the first week of homework such a great success! There is nothing more important than working with your child and teaching them that learning and school is important.  What a great first step into a successful school career for your child! Remember if life happens and you don't get to a night of homework just write me a note either in the homework notebook or the agenda. Thank you for your support! Thank you Alicia Bennett (Zoey's Mom) and Heather Segura (James's Mom) for signing up to be our Room Moms!  Reading:  Making friends is a life skill that is important to have.  Our focus this week was all about friendship.  We read and discussed Huggapotamus by Steve Metzger. Throughout this week we learned what is a friend and how can we be a good friend to others.  We are all unique in our own way and we should know that we all can be friends no matter what! The big vocabulary words we learned from this book

Homework has begun!

Your child should have brought their homework notebook home with them today. It is due back this Friday but we recommend keeping it in their backpack to help ensure it doesn't get left somewhere on that day. Each night your child should complete the review skill, choice 1 OR choice 2 and then do some reading with you. Reading aside, the work should take no longer than 20 minutes. The work should be completed on the pages behind the homework grid and you can put more than one night on a page to save paper. Until the children get more comfortable in their writing, they may need to dictate some of their ideas to you. But after a week or two, they need to begin doing some or more of the writing. All the questions from the homework relate to our standards. For example, you will see a question about finding the numbers on the mailbox. This relates to our social studies standard of knowing their "place in space" from continent down to home address. The question about figurin
