Update and a few reminders

Please keep one of our kindergarten teachers, Mrs. Barnwell, and her family in your thoughts. She lost her father over the weekend after a somewhat quick illness and has taken this week to say goodbye. We hope all our Addison families will send kind thoughts her way.


Just a few reminders and notes:

  • News Flash:  The sniffles, coughs, and runny noses have hit our classroom. We are encouraging getting tissues, using hand sanitizer/ hand washing and keeping our fingers out of our mouths and noses. Please encourage this at home as well. 
  • Homework: Please put a check in the box for each assignment completed, especially the reading, because we have no other way of knowing if it was completed. Also, try to fit more than on day per page to save paper! 
  • Please be sure to empty the front pocket of your child’s Take Home Folder and sign/initial your child’s agenda daily.  Any important notes or messages to you will be found in one of those two places.
  • You may have noticed little mini-books in your child’s folder.  These are a great review of our sight words and can be used during reading homework time.  I suggest you keep them stored in a Ziploc bag and have your child read them to or with you each evening. Have them practice pointing to each word as they read like we've been learning in class.

Ice Cream -- I sent an email out about this, but here is a reminder:

  • Kindergarteners may buy ice cream on Fridays, only.  
  • If you would like your child to purchase ice cream on a particular Friday, please write it in his/her agenda on the Friday he/she can buy it.  
  • If you would like your child to be able to buy ice cream EVERY Friday, please write a note stating that in his/her agenda.

Welcome to Addison Kindergarten!  We are looking forward to working with your children this year.  To assist us in making this a successful school year, it would be helpful if you would: 1.       Please send in a NUTRITIOUS snack to school each day with your child.  We encourage fruit, yogurt, cheese and crackers, etc.  (Please no candy, cookies or sweets or juice.) They may bring a water bottle to class each day if they choose to. 2.       Let your child know what their snack is each day and where it can be found in their backpack. (Sometimes kindergarteners get confused about what is their lunch versus snack or forget they have one.) Also, please do not send snack in a lunch box. Science Lab Volunteer Letters

Hi Kindergarten, I have been trying to think of a way to get thank yous from kids to our wonderful science lab volunteers.  Would you be able to post a message to your students to write cards/letters to the volunteers and bring them when they pick up their belongings at Addison?  They are welcome to thank more than one volunteer because there are so many for kindergarten.  I will have a labeled basket on each homeroom table for them to drop them in and I will pick them up and mail them to our volunteers.
