February 24th-28th
Brrr!! Let’s go on a journey into the Arctic and learn about polar bears this week as we read our nonfiction text Polar Bears by Laura Marsh. We will read other texts understanding that reading additional texts can help us understand a topic better. In our writing, we will inform our readers all about what we have learned about polar bears. Our STEM project this week will be to make a polar bear habitat!
Vocabulary from the book:
- Arctic: the area near the North Pole
- cub: a baby bear
- den: a hidden hole where a wild animal lives
- float: to rest or move in water without sinking
- snatch: to grab quickly
Our next STEM activity is quickly approaching (February 27th!)! We need your help in obtaining the materials the students will need to complete the project. Please consider sending in any of the following materials:
-quilt filling (looks like a big bag of cottony material)
-sugar cubes
-tissue/shoes boxes (empty)
-toilet paper rolls / paper towel rolls
-Saran Wrap – blue color only
-aluminum foil
-construction paper
-chenille sticks
-tissue paper-white, green, blue
-cotton balls
-Playdough or Crayola Air Dry Clay- White
-White Foam Shapes
-Anything the students could use to depict an arctic habitat
