March 18th - 22nd & Explanation of Quarter 4 Standards

Congratulations to our March Leader of the Month, Byron!

This week we learned all about dental health!  We learned about loose teeth, parts of a tooth and dental hygiene.  During our close read, we learned about the important features we see in a non fiction text.  Some of the things we learned about are: headers, labels, captions, photographs, table of contents and more!  We will also learn how to take care of our teeth so that we keep them healthy.

Vocabulary from Bear's Loose Tooth:

nibble:  to take small bites
savor:  to enjoy the taste or smell of
fret: to feel or express worry
perch: a rod or branch that an animal can sit on
pry: to move, lift or open
flutter: to move swiftly back and forth

Here are activities can do at home with your child this weekend:
  • Make a brush and floss chart.  Have students make a check mark for each time they floss or brush.  This will help the kids remember the importance of brushing and flossing everyday.
  • Make a list of healthy foods to eat and unhealthy foods.

Quarter 3 Report Cards came home Thursday please sign the envelope and return it to me and keep the report card.

**This will be my only long blog post explaining all the standards for the 4th quarter, so please save it to refer to throughout the quarter. I will post weekly updates on what we are reading and anything else I need to share with you on posts going forward. You can also look at the Quarter 4 column on the report card to see what we'll be working on. Thanks!**
