February 3rd-7th

How many animals can fit inside a mitten? This week we will find out as we read and discuss The Mitten by Jan Brett. Our focus will be about the author Jan Brett and winter. How do her illustrations tell us a story? We will be retelling and sequencing the events in the story. We will learn about cause and effect.

Vocabulary from the book:

  • knit: to make something from yarn using long needles
  • jostle: to crowd or bump against
  • commotion: a noisy disturbance
  • grumble: to mutter complaints
  • talons: a bird or animal’s claws
  • investigate: to search or examine
