April 8th - April 12th
Ribbit! Croak! Let’s learn about frogs! This week during reading and some of next week during writing we will be discussing Frogs by Elizabeth Carney. We will be hopping into this text to see how the author and illustrator can help us understand information all about frogs. We will be writing our own informational book all about frogs!
Dear Kindergator Parents,
Our Habit of the Month for April and May is Sharpen the Saw. Sharpen the Saw means preserving and enhancing the greatest asset you have--you. It means having a balanced program for self-renewal in the four areas of your life: physical, social/emotional, mental, and spiritual. Here are some examples of activities:
Physical: Beneficial eating, exercising, and resting
Social/Emotional: Making social and meaningful connections with others
Mental: Learning, reading, writing, and teaching
Spiritual: Spending time in nature, expanding spiritual self through meditation, music, art, prayer, or service
For this habit, we would like to request a printed picture of your child “Sharpening the Saw”! We will use the picture for our hallway display for the night of the Gator Gala. If you could send in a picture by April 15th of your child “Sharpening the Saw”.
Thank you,
Kindergarten Teachers
Here are a couple websites to help with different strategies to use at home for sight words:

Vocabulary from the book:
- croak: the deep, hoarse noise that a frog makes
- gills: body parts that a fish or tadpole uses to breathe
- habitat: the natural place where a plant or animal lives
- poison: something that can kill or hurt living things
Here are just a few activities you can do at home with your child this weekend:
- Hop like a frog and count to 100 by 10s and 5s.
- Hop and spell CVC (dog, cat, pig, rat, sad, dad, mom) words.
- Small frogs like to eat ants! Make “ants on a log” for snack time. Place raisins on a peanut butter covered celery stick.
Monday in the Science Lab Mrs. Knobbe reviewed characteristics of plants and the students got to plant grass heads! Once they start growing they will come home!
We are excited to announce our Parental Pedagogy Week, coming the week of May 13-17.
We would like to invite our parents to come in to class and teach something unique and personal to our students. This can involve career related lessons, cultural tradition lessons, science projects, cooking lessons, art lessons or anything you think the students might enjoy. Hands-on lessons and projects are usually the most interesting, but sharing a special family story can be a wonderful experience too. This is a chance to promote the importance of education, have some fun, expand our curriculum, and show the students that everyone has something special to contribute! We welcome your ideas and can even help with some planning or materials if you need us.
Here are some examples from previous years that the children seemed to enjoy, if you need some inspiration:
Puppet Making, What Doctors Do, Learning Spanish, Making Mud Pudding, How to Play Baseball, What Facial Expressions Tell Us, Watercolors, Cursive Handwriting, and Theatrical Storytelling.
Attached you will find a schedule of times available that week. If you wish to participate, please email us what date and time you prefer and a generalized idea of what you will be teaching or presenting. This is always a fun and powerful week of learning, so we hope you can make time to be our next teacher.
Thanks as always,
Mrs. Rodgers
