September 30th - October 4th

Do you know a nocturnal animal that flies? What did we talk about last week? BATS! Bats are the only mammal that can fly! We read and discussed the story Stellaluna by Janell Cannon. We continued to focus on characters and setting within the story but we also began to focus on the major events in a story.

Vocabulary from the book:

oswoop: to sweep down from above suddenly
oclutch: to hold tightly
oescape: to get free
oclamber: to climb in an awkward way
ocurious: eager to learn more

We've continued to learn and examine our 2D (flat) and 3D (solid) shapes. While you're out and about during the break talk about shapes you see around you!

Vocabulary:
2D or Flat Shapes
Triangle: a polygon with three sides
Rectangle: a parallelogram with four angles
Squares: a rectangle with four equal sides
Circle: the set of all points in a plane that are the same distance from a fixed point
Hexagon: a closed figure with six straight sides
3D or Solid Shapes
Cylinder: an object shaped like a tube or pole
Cone: an object that has a flat, round  base and narrows to a point at the top
Sphere: a solid round object like a ball
Cube: a solid figure with six square faces

We are well underway with assessments for their first report card! I am looking forward to talking with each of you!
